UK singer Henry Moodie overwhelmed by Malaysian reception at TRX (VIDEO)

KUALA LUMPUR, May 7 — Singer-songwriter Henry Moodie was surprised by the reception from local fans during his free show at The Exchange TRX last Sunday as fans swarmed the mall to catch Moodie’s performance.

Some were even seen joining in the sing-along outside due to overwhelming crowd that turned up, as he played a few of his songs including his viral hit Drunk Text and Beat Up Car as well as a mashup cover of Taylor Swift’s Blank Space.

Moodie told the media that he wasn’t expecting such a huge turnout despite knowing that most of his Spotify listeners are from Malaysia.

“Everyone here has been so nice, the service and everyone at the show on Sunday was just lovely and I’m really happy to come here because people really show me their support here.

“We anticipated a crowd but we could’ve never assumed it was going to be that big. I felt really bad for the people who couldn’t see me.

“We just didn’t think that many people would turn up, but I’m so happy everyone showed up and was able to connect with my music but yes apologies to everyone who couldn’t see me during the show,” he said.

Moodie, who had a similar live performance in the Philippines before coming to Malaysia, also said that his free shows were a personal thank you note to his fans and he wanted all of his fans to be able to enjoy his live performances.

He said that his fame in South-east Asia was in contrast to his life back home.

“Back in England where I spend most of my time, I definitely can go out and do anything because I’m not that big in the UK.

“I didn’t have that ‘fame’ experience there but coming here is a different experience, it’s like a double life and I love it.

“Because I came from the other side of the world from a little village with a lowkey life back home but coming out here, I feel like a male Hannah Montana in a way,” Moodie said.

The singer said he was currently working on new music and is in the midst of choosing songs to put out next, promising listeners that his songs will have a much happier tone compared to his previously released ones.

Moodie will be flying to Jakarta, Indonesia next and will be performing live there this May 8.
