This takes the official death toll to 135,621.
The figure is down from Tuesday – when 203 deaths were recorded. On Monday, 49 were reported.
As of 9am Wednesday, some 34, 460 new cases were reported – up from 31, 564 on Tuesday.
Government data up to September 21 shows that of the 93,200,697 Covid jabs given in the UK, 48,644,692 were first doses, a rise of 26,989 on the previous day.
Some 44,556,005 were second doses, an increase of 43,433.
Earlier today, England’s Chief Medical Officer Chris Whitty said any child aged between 12 and 15 who doesn’t get vaccinated will catch Covid at some point.
He was facing questions from MPs on the Education Committee about the inclusion of children in the Government’s Covid-19 vaccination programme.
