Jammu: Renowned Congress luminary and son of Maharaja Hari Singh, the architect of the historic treaty of accession with India, opines that the abrogation of Article 370 has effectively culminated in the seamless integration of Kashmir into the Indian union.

According to Dr. Karan Singh, the revered statesman and custodian of Kashmir’s heritage, the populace of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) has generally expressed contentment following the repeal of the contentious Article 370, catalysing a wave of developmental endeavors in the region.

Reflecting on the transformative impact of Article 370’s annulment, Dr. Singh, in an exclusive interview with Pradeep Dutta of Times Now, lauded the inception of myriad developmental projects and the establishment of esteemed academic institutions such as IIT and IIM, heralding a new era of progress and opportunity.

“This heralds a commendable advancement,” he remarked, while noting the prevalent sense of satisfaction among the populace.

When probed regarding the integration of Kashmir into the Indian fold post-Article 370, Dr. Singh affirmed, “Undoubtedly, the revocation of Article 370 represents the definitive integration of Kashmir with India. There remains no distinct entity now. When my father acceded to India, only three subjects were under India’s control: defence, foreign affairs and communications. Now no separate entity is left.”

Nonetheless, he underscored the imperative of reinstating statehood and facilitating expeditious elections to uphold democratic principles and governance

Amidst the backdrop of Prime Minister’s visit to Kashmir post the abrogation of Article 370, Dr. Karan Singh expressed optimism, stating, “I am sure it will go well. There is a lot of development in the feel-good factor, and I am happy that he is going to Kashmir.”

Besides Kashmir Dr. Karan Singh’s insights shed light on a range of critical issues, from the significance of the Ram Temple construction and the imperative of women’s rights protection.

On the topic of BJP’s political slogan “Abki Baar 400 Paar,” Dr. Singh chose not to delve into specifics but acknowledged the Prime Minister’s ambitious goals.

Expressing his joy as a Hindu regarding the construction of the Ram Temple, Dr. Singh revealed his modest contribution to the cause. He urged politicians not to politicise the issue, emphasising that the temple construction was carried out under the auspices of the Supreme Court.

Turning his attention to the recent Sandeshkhali incident, Dr. Singh condemned the concept of virtual kingdoms by alleged accused in the case and urged action from Mamata Banerjee’s administration. He deemed such personal empires as unacceptable and underscored the need for accountability.

In response to queries about the mistreatment of women, Dr. Singh unequivocally stated, “It is totally unacceptable.”
