The Kansas City Chiefs appear to be getting a boost in the backfield for Super Bowl LVIII.
Veteran Jerick McKinnon, who has not played since mid-December due to injury but was activated off injured reserve this weekend, is “expected to go” per NFL Network’s James Palmer.
“Remarkable that’s he’s been able to get himself ready for this game,” Palmer wrote on Twitter this afternoon. “McKinnon felt good during his rehab as it’s been steady progress day to day. This was a game he WILL NOT miss. Jet went through a lot mentally during his time with the #49ers and has been waiting for this match up since he came to KC.”
McKinnon, 31, was placed on IR before Week 16 with a groin injury. During the regular season, he appeared in 12 games, carrying the ball 21 times for 60 yards and one touchdown while adding 25 receptions for 192 yards and four scores.
During KC’s run to the Super Bowl last season, McKinnon logged 19 carries and 60 rushing yards along with five receptions for 32 yards. Assuming he plays tonight, he’ll provide support Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Isiah Pacheco at running back.
The Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers will kick off at 6:30 p.m. ET tonight on CBS.
