storm isha weather warnings: full list of alerts in place for sunday

Storm Isha will be off the coast of Ireland on Saturday (Rainfall map: Met Office)

Storm Isha is forecasted to batter the UK with winds up to 80mph through Sunday and into Monday.

Multiple wind and rain warnings have been issued by the Met Office and they have warned severe winds may damage buildings and homes, as well as making conditions for travel difficult.

The forecaster also warned there could be power outages, loss of mobile phone signals, road closures, and disruption to rail and bus services.

Arctic air which has swept across the country this week has been replaced by milder Atlantic winds, and the Met Office said the change in airmass is causing the windier weather.

Met Office chief meteorologist, Dan Suri, said: “Storm Isha will bring a disruptive spell of weather to the UK with strong winds across the whole country.”

Where are weather warnings in place?

Gusts of wind are expected to continue across Northern Ireland, north Wales, northern England and much of Scotland during the week.

The Met Office has issued an amber “danger to life” alert which will run from 6pm tomorrow to 9am on Monday for Northern Ireland, most of Wales, the North, and the west coast of England. For Scotland an amber alert has been issued from 9pm tomorrow before also ending at 9am on Monday.

A UK-wide yellow weather warning has also been issued between 12pm tomorrow and 12pm Monday due to high wind speeds.

Meanwhile, yellow warnings are in place for rain with up to 50 mm forecasted across hilly parts of Scotland, and 80 -100 mm in some parts of northern-western England from Sunday night, into Monday while Wales is also expected to moderate rainfall.

Another yellow weather warning is also in place for wind from 4pm on Tuesday to 12pm on Wednesday for Scotland, Northern Ireland, the north of England and north Wales.

East Midlands Railway anticipates “significant disruption” on Sunday and Monday, with Police Scotland advising people to avoid unnecessary travel.

The Environment Agency has issued eight flood warnings, and 52 flood alerts suggesting potential flooding.

What is the latest weather forecast?

According to the Met Office, despite the impending blustery weather, warmer temperatures are expected to replace recent snow and sub-zero chills, with highs of 12°C possible on Sunday.

But rain is still expected, with the heaviest downpours predicted to take place on Sunday as 30-50mm could fall in many places and there is potential for peaks of 80-100mm over hills.

Gusts of 45-55mph are likely inland, but there is the potential for 80mph winds in coastal areas.

Tonight, the Met Office expects patchy rain turning more persistent in the west later, with dry spells expected for much of the east of England and Scotland.

Sunday will be windy but largely dry at first, before gusts strengthen later in the day as Storm Isha arrives from the west, bringing widespread rain.

The start of next week will see sunny spells and heavy blustery showers but more wind and rain is predicted for Tuesday.
