Ukraine has slammed the casting of one of the actors in HBO drama The White Lotus season 3.

Set in Thailand, the next instalment of the thriller features the likes of Sex Education star Aimee Lou Wood, Peter Pan’s Jason Isaacs, Michelle Monaghan and Serbian actor Miloš Biković.

It is Biković’s starring role in The White Lotus that has sparked widespread backlash on X, including from Ukraine’s foreign ministry, due to the 36-year-old’s support for the Russian invasion.

The government body wrote: ‘Miloš Biković, Serbian actor who has been supporting Russia since the start of the full-scale invasion, is now set to star in HBO’s The White Lotus Season 3.

‘@HBO, is it all right for you to work with a person who supports genocide & violates international law?’

On the same day Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2021, Biković shared on Instagram that he had obtained Russian citizenship by presidential decree, describing it as a ‘blessing’.

Also in The White Lotus season 3 are the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s son Patrick Schwarzenegger, The Shield actor Walton Goggins, The Gilded Age’s Carrie Coon and Party Girl’s Parker Posey.

Jennifer Coolidge, who starred in both the first and second series but who met an untimely end in the finale of the second instalment, will not be returning.

Her role as millionaire Tanya McQuoid sparked a career renaissance for the American Pie actress and she won an Emmy for her performance earlier this month.

The first season of The White Lotus, which was filmed during Covid and was a huge hit, was set in a hotel in Hawaii and starred Connie Britton, Sydney Sweeney, Murray Bartlett and Coolidge.

The second season was set in Sicily and starred Theo James, Aubrey Plaza, Will Sharpe, Tom Hollander and Meghann Fahy.

Metro.co.uk has contacted HBO and Biković’s rep for comment.

The White Lotus season 3 is expected to air on HBO in 2025.
