Two people have died in a car crash south-east of Melbourne this afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the accident in Devon Meadows about 1.30pm.
Police believe a car was performing a u-turn on the South Gippsland Highway when it collided with another car travelling southbound about 1.25pm.
“Both occupants of the first vehicle, who are yet to be formally identified, sadly died at the scene,” Victoria Police said in a statement.

“The driver of the second vehicle was uninjured and is assisting police with their enquiries.”
There is a police presence on the South Gippsland Highway and the road is set to be closed southbound for some time while detectives examine the scene.
The road closure is between Manks Road and Baxter-Tooradon Road.
The Department of Transport has urged motorists to follow the direction of emergency services and to allow extra time when travelling in the area.

“This closure is under Victoria Police control,” the department said.
“The road will re-open when investigations are complete and it’s safe to do so.”
