Head coaches Deion Sanders and Lincoln Riley once again battle for one of the top college football talents in the transfer portal, this time being former Michigan State Spartan defensive lineman Derrick Harmon. The All-Big Ten honorable mention already entered the transfer portal once this season following a disappointing campaign in East Lansing.
He returned to the Jonathan Smith-led Spartans for the spring but returned to the portal in late April. On3’s Pete Nakos reports that the two frontrunners for Harmon are the Colorado Buffaloes and USC Trojans.
“USC and Colorado have come up a lot in conversations in the last 24 hours about Michigan State defensive lineman Derrick Harmon. The All-Big Ten Honorable Mention selection did not visit Miami on Monday, taking the Hurricanes out of the equation. It’s worth a reminder that Harmon took visits to Oregon and Ohio State during the winter portal window. He would create a strong duo with Bear Alexander in the trenches for the Trojans,” Nakos wrote.
Harmon finished the 2023 season with 40 total tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, and a forced fumble. Harmon will have two years of eligibility remaining wherever he chooses to transfer.
