Two days of weather warnings as Brits brace for torrential rain & fierce winds bringing ‘danger to life’

BRITS are braced for torrential downpours and fierce wind bring a 'danger to life' this week.

The Met Office have issued yellow warnings for Tuesday and Wednesday as storms are expected to batter the northern UK.

Tuesday's warning is for heavy rain from midnight until 10am in Western Scotland, with travel delays expected and flooding possible.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday a warning has been issued for strong wind across the northern half of the country, much of Wales and all of Scotland and Northern Ireland for the whole day.

Forecasters say that rain will sweep across the North West tonight and then focus on Wales and the North into tomorrow.

This will bring with it disruption and a “danger to life” as well as the chance of damage to buildings and significant travel delays.

Friday should see the wet and windy weather ease and the outlook into the weekend is clear or sunny spells, with reduced showers in the North.

Met Office meteorologist Annie Shuttleworth said: “This week will be a particularly changeable week, with rain likely in many areas at times.

“It’ll be more persistent on until Thursday morning particularly for northern and western areas of the country, afterwards it will become more showery.”

She added: “The heaviest rain is expected on Tuesday evening and Wednesday daytime.

“We could see up to 60mm falling throughout Tuesday and Wednesday in parts of Northern England and Western Scotland, which is about 2 inches.”
