Twisters devastate Oklahoma town with rescue efforts underway
Let’s begin this morning with another dangerous tornado outbreak. Overnight across the Midwest and plain states, the town of Sulphur. OK, Essentially flattened NBC. Marissa Parra is in nearby Oklahoma City with the latest Marissa. Good morning. Hey, Willie. It was an active evening, as promised, across the region. Since yesterday afternoon, we had 35 reports of tornadoes, almost half of them right here in Oklahoma. Now, we’ve seen multiple reports of injuries, and officials in nearby Hughes County confirm at least one person has died. Now sulphur, OK, which you’re looking at right now, seemingly taking the hardest hits, The damage catastrophic. The town completely gutted, flattened in some parts, reduced to rubble. And this is a small city, about an hour and a half southeast of Oklahoma City. Population just 5000 Now, the tornado, the devastated sulphur, was one of many that struck in the middle of the night, and the threat remains. Looking ahead, 27 million people remain at risk of severe weather today and tonight. Between wind gusts, hail and possibly even more tornadoes, we’re expecting heavy downpours, prompting some flood risks. And Willie, we’re still seeing lightning this morning, even as we’re here right now. But despite the risk of more severe weather, we know that there are recovery and in some cases, rescue efforts fully underway. After an intense weekend of tornadoes ravaging the flame, states Willie.
