R-Day Parade 2024: Restrictions in Delhi
Vehicular movement in central Delhi is anticipated to face disruptions on Tuesday during a full dress rehearsal for the Republic Day parade, according to an advisory from the Delhi Police. Commuters are urged to plan their journeys ahead, as the rehearsal’s route mirrors that of the main parade on Republic Day.
Traffic Disruptions and Route Details
The full dress rehearsal, commencing at 10.30 am from Vijay Chowk, will follow a route encompassing Kartavya Path, C-Hexagon, the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose statue roundabout, Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, and Netaji Subhas Marg, concluding at the Red Fort.
Kartavya Path Restrictions
To facilitate the smooth passage of the parade, Kartavya Path from Vijay Chowk to India Gate will be closed to traffic from 6 pm on Monday until the rehearsal concludes on Tuesday. Additional restrictions include no cross-traffic at Rafi Marg, Janpath, and Man Singh Road from 11 pm on Monday.
C-Hexagon Closure: C-Hexagon-India Gate will be closed from 9.15 am on Tuesday until the parade crosses Tilak Marg.
Tilak Marg and Surrounding Roads: No traffic will be allowed on Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, and Netaji Subhas Marg from 10.30 am on Tuesday. Cross-traffic will be permitted based on the parade’s movement.
Commuter Advisory: Commuters are advised to plan journeys in advance, avoiding the parade route from 9.30 am to 1 pm.
Metro Services and Other Transportation
Metro Services During Rehearsal: Metro services will operate from all stations during the dress rehearsal. However, boarding and de-boarding at Central Secretariat and Udyog Bhawan stations will be prohibited from 5 am to 12 pm.
Road Travel Precautions: While no restrictions are imposed on traffic from north Delhi to railway stations, the advisory encourages planning ahead to mitigate potential delays.
City Buses and Diversions: City buses will be curtailed at specific locations, and diversions will be in place for buses from Ghaziabad bound for Shivaji Stadium and Wazirabad Bridge.
Heavy Transport Restrictions: No heavy transport or light goods vehicles will be allowed into Delhi from 11 pm on Monday until the parade concludes, with specific timings for permitted movement.
Airspace Restrictions and Security Measures
Aerial Platforms Prohibited: Sub-conventional aerial platforms, including paragliders and unmanned aerial vehicles, are prohibited over Delhi until February 15.
Police Coordination Meeting: The Delhi Police organized an inter-state coordination meeting focusing on assessing potential terror threats and implementing anti-terror measures.
Additional Traffic Restrictions and Flight Movements
Midweek Traffic Restrictions: Traffic movement restrictions will be in place at Kartavya Path-Rafi Marg Crossing, Kartavya Path-Janpath Crossing, Kartavya Path-Mansingh Road Crossing, and Kartavya Path-C Hexagon on specific days and timings.
Alternative Routes: Motorists heading to New Delhi and beyond from Vinay Marg and Shanti Path are advised to take alternative routes due to closures on Kartavya Path between India Gate and Vijay Chowk.
Flight Movements: Flight movements in Delhi will continue from January 19 to January 29, with specific restrictions on non-scheduled flights during the Republic Day period.
In preparation for Republic Day celebrations, Delhi undergoes temporary changes affecting traffic and flight movements. Commuters and travelers are encouraged to stay informed, follow real-time directives, and plan accordingly to avoid inconveniences.
