After months in hospital, Irish music legend Shane MacGowan has finally been deemed well enough to be discharged from hospital.
The 65-year-old has been in St Vincent’s Hospital with an infection since the summer, with his wife Victoria Mary Clarke keeping fans up to date with his treatment on social media.

While he battled illness, famous friends including Bono, The Edge, Imelda May and Daniel O’Donnell have all been in to visit him but now doctors have decided that he can continue his recovery in the comfort of his own home.
Taking to social media on Wednesday evening, Victoria Mary shared a photo of Shane sitting up in his hospital bed wearing a wooly hat and a wide smile, as she wrote ‘Shane got out of the hospital!
‘We are deeply and eternally grateful to all of the doctors and nurses and staff at St Vincent’s it’s the best! And special thanks to Tom Creadh and Brian Coscadden for your help.’

Shane has been in hospital since June being treated for a mystery infection, and it’s been a long road to get him well enough to be home for the festive season.
Victoria has frequently posted to thank doctors and people who have been there to keep the singer’s spirits up.
