Triple up! SAA allows 3 checked bags on THESE flights: See here

Passengers can take three pieces of checked baggage on South African Airways (SAA) flights to two destinations.

This generous baggage allowance is extraordinary, given that most airlines operating international flights within Southern Africa allow just one piece of baggage on their regional flights.

BAGGAGE ALLOWANCE

When flying between Johannesburg and Harare (Zimbabwe) passengers in economy class are entitled to bring three pieces of checked baggage with them. Each piece may weigh up to 23 kg.

The same applies to SAA’s flights between Johannesburg and Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of Congo).

OFFER CONDITIONS

The special baggage allowance is applicable for South African Airways flights from Johannesburg, for a limited time only.

The offer is available for flights to Harare until 15 March. The promo is valid for SAA’s flights to Kinshasa until 31 March 2024.

RESTRUCTURED AIRLINE

The restarted airline resumed scheduled flights in November 2021, after completing a lengthy business rescue process that saw it emerge as just a shadow of its former self.

South African Airways restarted up flights to just a handful of its former route network.

Initially, it flew only between Johannesburg and Cape Town (domestic route). The airline also flew to a handful of destinations beyond SA’s borders.

SAA SCALES UP

The airline is trying to scale up its scheduled operations and to rebuild its route network. However, global aircraft shortages have had an impact on its ability to scale up.

SAA recently resumed seasonal flights to Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth). The airline currently operates many of its scheduled flights with aircraft it has acquired on a short-term lease.
