MANILA, Philippines: Troy Rosario fired 11 of his 17 points in the final quarter as Blackwater turned the tables against Phoenix to score a runaway 102-83 win to close its PBA Season 48 Philippine Cup campaign on a winning note on Saturday at the Ynares Arena in Pasig.
With both team out of the playoff running, and had nothing left but bragging rights, the Bossing turned to the heroics of Rosario, whose strong offensive helped his team outscore Phoenix, 37-14 in the last period en route to snapping a seven-game losing skid and closing the season at 4-7.
Frederick Tungcab led Blackwater with 19 points, while Rosario, aside from his offense, hauled down 14 rebounds and issued three assists.
Rey Nambatac added 16, while RK Ilagan and Brawny Guinto had 11 each for Blackwater.
Jason Perkins led Phoenix with 22 points, while Jayjay Alejandro was the only other double-figure scorer for the team with 14.
The Fuel Masters closed the season at 3-8, as the team couldn’t follow through their semifinal stint in the Commissioner’s Cup last February.
Phoenix failed to adjust well after the injury bug hit the team early in the Philippine Cup. The Fuel Masters dealt with an assortment of injuries that saw Tyler Tio, Raul Soyud, RR Garcia, Sean Manganti and even Perkins fail to play at some point of the conference.
