kristaps porzingis on jaylen brown's triple-double vs. houston: he doesn’t need to score 30 every night

On a night that saw him go just 6-of-14 from the field overall and 1-of-3 from beyond the arc, star Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown still found ways to help his team win vs. the Houston Rockets Sunday night. In years past, a night like the one Brown had from the field in terms of efficiency might have sunk the Celtics. But the Georgia native leaned into other aspects of his game and got his first triple-double of the season.

“It speaks volumes for (Brown’s) leadership, too” said teammate Kristaps Porzingis postgame to NBC Sports Boston via Heavy’s Matt John.

“He understands he doesn’t need to score 30 every night,” added the Latvian big man.

“And he can have this kind of night where maybe he’s not making all the shots but just making those passes, making those reads for our teammates, and that (to) us as a group, that’s a chain reaction,” explained Porzingis.

Concerns yet remain about both Brown and fellow All-NBA forward Jayson Tatum’s late-game shot selection and pace.

But to know that they can find ways to impact the game when their shot abandons them is an important part of what Boston will need in their toolkit if they truly hope to compete for a title this postseason.
