‘Triumph of truth’: AAP elated as SC grants interim bail to Arvind Kejriwal
NEW DELHI: Elated over the Supreme Court’s order to grant interim bail to CM Arvind Kejriwal, the Aam Aadmi Party said it was the triumph of truth and will strengthen the party’s campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha election.
Arrested in an excise policy-linked money laundering case on March 21, Kejriwal has been lodged in Tihar jail since April 1. After the SC order to grant him interim bail till June 1 to campaign for the party, the AAP national convener is likely to come out late Friday evening after completing the formalities.
Addressing a press conference, AAP’s Delhi state convener Gopal Rai said Kejriwal was arrested without any evidence against him. “His release from the jail will strengthen our fight to save democracy and the Constitution,” Rai said.
Delhi minister and senior AAP functionary Atishi said the Supreme Court plays an important role whenever democracy is in danger.
“In a democracy, a free and fair election is its foundation. We have a dictatorship govt at the Centre, which is trying to finish the opposition, the democracy, and the Constitution. I urge people to save the country and the democracy. This is the last opportunity and cast your vote accordingly,” said Atishi.
Another Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj said getting bail in a money laundering case within 40 days is nothing short of a miracle.
“This is not ordinary, this is special. This has happened for a bigger reason. You will now see bigger changes happening in the country with the release of Kejriwal,” Bharadwaj said.
