UP set to emerge as a renewable energy powerhouse
Uttar Pradesh is set to emerge as a renewable energy powerhouse in future with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath-led government gearing up to launch eight projects at the cost of Rs 67,000 crore during the upcoming Groundbreaking Ceremony@4 (GBC@4).
The electricity will be generated through launch of Pumped Storage Projects (PSP), which promises to usher in a green energy revolution, solidifying Uttar Pradesh’s position as a trailblazer in renewable energy innovation.
The move also seeks to make UP self-reliant in the field of power generation and a power surplus state. It is worth mentioning here that the GBC@4 will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 19 and see implementation of projects worth Rs 10 lakh crore in diverse sectors, officials here on Tuesday said.
With a combined capacity of 13,250 MW, these projects mark a significant milestone in ensuring robust power generation in the state.
Leading industry players such as Greenko Group, Torrent Power Group, JSW Neo Energy Limited, ACME Cleantech Solutions, Amunra InfraTech and Agritech, and Avaada Water Battery Private Ltd are poised to make substantial investments, underscoring their confidence in Uttar Pradesh’s renewable energy potential. Of the eight projects, six are located in Sonbhadra as well as two in Mirzapur and Chandauli districts.
The majority of these pioneering projects are concentrated in Sonbhadra district, which emerges as the epicenter of renewable energy advancement in the state. Pumped storage projects, renowned for their environmental sustainability, promise to reshape the energy landscape.
Noteworthy among these initiatives is Greenko’s ambitious 3600 MW Gurar plant, poised to harness the resources of the Son River. This transformative project holds the promise of uplifting surrounding villages within Obra tehsil, heralding a new era of prosperity and progress.
This project built on Son River will require 43.66 MCM water for filling the reservoir once and 27.629 MCM water for annual recouping. This project has the potential to transform the lives of people living in villages within the Obra tehsil, such as Gurar, Garwa, Pindari, Ranidev, Muhuna, and Baijnath.
Similarly, Torrent Power has set up a 1750 GW pumped storage plant on the Son River. The project upholds the principles of environmental conservation, by neither changing nor damaging the riverine ecosystem.
With closed-loop pumped storage projects offering renewable energy at minimal expenses, Torrent Power’s dedication extends beyond mere infrastructure development, encompassing meaningful CSR activities aimed at driving socio-economic growth in the region.
