NEW DELHI: Travis Konecny’s short-handed goal in the early third period proved to be the difference as the Philadelphia Flyers halted a four-game losing streak, defeating the Calgary Flames 3-2 on Saturday. Morgan Frost, with a goal and an assist, and Sean Couturier also contributed for the Flyers, while goaltender Carter Hart made 22 saves.
Konecny, Philadelphia’s All-Star representative, showcased his prowess by netting a wrist shot past Flames goalie Jakob Markstrom on a breakaway just 2:27 into the final period. This marked Konecny’s fifth short-handed goal of the season, leading the NHL, and his 21st goal overall.
Despite the Flames taking leads of 1-0 and 2-1 in the second period, the Flyers mounted comebacks on both occasions. Morgan Frost and Sean Couturier found the back of the net to level the score each time, setting the stage for Konecny’s decisive goal.
In another notable NHL game, the Florida Panthers secured an 8-4 victory over the Colorado Avalanche, extending their winning streak to seven games. Sam Reinhart led the Panthers with a hat trick, recording his seventh career three-goal game. Sergei Bobrovsky made 23 saves for his sixth consecutive win during the Panthers’ impressive streak.
Reinhart’s stellar performance included 10 goals during the Panthers’ seven-game winning streak. Carter Verhaeghe also contributed significantly with two goals and an assist, while Aleksander Barkov marked his 700th NHL game with four assists. Matthew Tkachuk added a goal and three assists for the Panthers.
For the Avalanche, Cale Makar and Valeri Nichushkin each had a goal and an assist, with Jonathan Drouin and Josh Manson also finding the back of the net. Despite Colorado’s efforts to rally from deficits, the Panthers emerged victorious, showcasing their offensive prowess and solidifying their status as a formidable team in the NHL.
