Training MBO students generates money for society

Training MBO students generates money for society

The yield of every MBO student who obtains a basic qualification at level two is three times as high as the investment. This is apparent from research by Curio, a vocational trainer in West Brabant. MBO students are also more productive and earn more than without a basic qualification. They are less likely to come into contact with the police and the judiciary and they are less likely to receive benefits. This reports the AD.

On behalf of Curio, researchers from economic consultancy LPBL calculated that a level 2 diploma yields more than 90,000 euros in profit, with an investment of less than 30,000 euros.

Risk family

With a level 3 or 4 diploma, the effect is even greater. Then the profit is more than 120,000 euros. If the student comes from a high-risk family, he will benefit society even more. About 135,000 euros. A family at risk is, for example, a family in which one of the parents suffers from a mental illness, poverty or problems between the educators. Ultimately, there are more benefits than costs to the rest of society.
