COP28: HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa Visits UAE House of Sustainability Pavilion, Morocco Pavilion

Dubai – Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa, President of the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Protection of the Environment, visited the UAE House of Sustainability pavilion and the Pavilion of the Kingdom of Morocco on Wednesday at the 28th Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP28) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

This visit is part of the activities of Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa during her participation in the COP28, which takes place from November 30 to December 12.

Upon her arrival at the Green Zone, Her Royal Highness was welcomed by Her Excellency Maryam Al Meheiri, the Emirati Minister of Climate Change and Environment, and General Commissioner of the UAE pavilions at COP28, Minister of National Education, Preschool, and Sports, Chakib Benmoussa, as well as by Young Reporters for the Environment representing the 12 regions of the Kingdom, who accompanied Her Royal Highness during this visit.

At the entrance of the UAE House Of Sustainability pavilion in the Green Zone, Princess Lalla Hasnaa was welcomed by Ms. Razan Khalifa Al Mubarak, President of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and High-Level Climate Champion of the UN for COP28.

Subsequently, Princess Lalla Hasnaa visited various spaces in the pavilion, including Sustainable Oases, an area reflecting the ancient traditional life of the Emiratis, its relationship with environmental protection, and the traditional irrigation methods used and updated, as well as Sand Dunes, where Her Royal Highness received a presentation on the history of Emirati sand dunes and their relationship with sustainable ecosystems.

Her Royal Highness then attended a ceremony, on digital screens, paying tribute to Emirati champions of climate change. These champions include Fatima Al Falahi, a young forest guard, Maitha Al Hameli, a member of the sustainability experts’ network and head of the marine biodiversity assessment and conservation section (Abu Dhabi Environmental Agency), Shamsa Al Hameli, a scientific assistant in fisheries (Abu Dhabi), Alshareef, a traditional Emirati beekeeping family, and Mohammed Al Remethi, head of animal conservation and reintroduction unit (Abu Dhabi Environmental Agency).

HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa also visited the Innovative Solutions spaces, where she learned about future solutions that can be found in nature, and “Dinner in 2050,” a culinary experience based on artificial intelligence.

Later, Her Royal Highness visited the Pavilion of the Kingdom of Morocco, located in the Blue Zone, where she was welcomed by the Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Ms. Leila Benali.

On this occasion, Princess Lalla Hasnaa received explanations about the events organized at the Moroccan Pavilion and a presentation on the strategies of the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, including the national strategy for sustainable development, the Low Carbon strategy, the energy strategy, and the mining strategy.

HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa also received a presentation on sectoral programs to combat climate change, another presentation from the Kingdom of Morocco’s presidency at the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA 6), a hologram (3D) on the same topic, as well as a screening of an institutional film and a documentary on the achievements of the Kingdom of Morocco since the Rio de Janeiro COP in Brazil.

At the end of this visit, Her Royal Highness received souvenir items crafted by Moroccan artisans.
