TORONTO — Team Niklas Edin and Team Anna Hasselborg remain in contention at the Princess Auto Players’ Championship.
Both Swedish squads found their second wind to score their second wins Friday morning during Draw 12 action to draw their records level to 2-2 with one round-robin game remaining each.
The reigning world men’s champion Edin took two for the win in the eighth end to clip Calgary’s Team Kevin Koe 6-5 while Hasselborg fended off Italy’s Team Stefania Constantini 5-4 in the women’s division.
Edin just earned his record-extending seventh gold medal at the world championship this past Sunday in Switzerland.
Team Koe and Team Constantini dropped to 1-3 records.
Elsewhere in Draw 12, Saskatoon’s Team Mike McEwen stayed undefeated to clinch a playoff spot at 4-0 with an 8-3 decision against Scotland’s Team James Craik (1-3).
In women’s play, Gimli’s Team Kerri Einarson (1-3) got into the win column with a 6-5 win over Winnipeg’s Team Kaitlyn Lawes (0-4) in an all-Manitoba matchup.

The Princess Auto Players’ Championship is the fifth and final Grand Slam of Curling event of the season featuring the top 12 men’s teams and top 12 women’s teams from around the world. … Both divisions are split into two pools of six for round-robin play. The best six teams advance to the playoffs with the top two receiving byes to the semifinals. If necessary, a tiebreaker round will be played Saturday morning to determine the final playoff berths. … The quarterfinals and semifinals are scheduled for Saturday with the finals on tap Sunday.
