If the car sells for £30,000 (US$38,000), it will break the new record for a Mk2 XR3i, which currently stands at £27,000 for a specimen sold by Iconic Auctioneers in 2017.

The car has a pre-sale estimated price of £25,000 to £30,000, which is three times the price it was in 1988.

According to Classic Car Auctions, which is auctioning the car, this 1988 Ford Escort XR3i with just 2,859 miles on the dashboard, is a new 35-year-old Sleeping Beauty waiting for its prince.

Superbly presented, the second generation of the XR3i is a ‘cult car’ among Ford Performance enthusiasts and still highly valued today. It represents a remarkable opportunity with just 2,859 miles and only one owner to date. The classic is valued between £25,000 – £30,000.

Its 1,597cc OHC four-cylinder engine offers 105bhp, taking the sports car from 0-60 in 8.5 seconds and to a top speed of 120mph.

The Escort was purchased new in August 1988 from Bristol Street Motors by its first owner.
