Mario Cristobal and the Miami Hurricanes have left something to be desired on the football field since the former Oregon Ducks head coach returned to coach his alma mater. Cristobal is 12-13 in two seasons with the Hurricanes, but his recruiting success would make you think he’s much more capable than a sub-.500 record.
The majority of Cristobal’s success comes from flipping top recruits at the midnight hour of signing day to head to Coral Gables. Even though he’s assembled an impressive roster, he’s learning some tough news within the first hour of the spring transfer portal window opening up.
“A trio of entries from Miami, @On3sports has learned: Offensive lineman Logan Sagapolu, EDGE Nyjalik Kelly, defensive back Souleymane Bangoura,” On3’s Pete Nakos reported on X.
The Hurricanes will be missing the potential of Kelly the most. He was a top-100 recruit in the 2022 class. Sagapolu started his career with Cristobal in Oregon in 2019 as a three-star recruit. Souleymane Bangoura doesn’t have any collegiate stats, nor a recruiting profile.
“Kelly was a four-star recruit in Miami’s 2022 signing class and saw action in 16 contests over the last two seasons. The Florida native recorded 11 tackles and four sacks in limited snaps as a freshman but was limited to just eight stops in ’23,” Steve Lassan wrote.
