'Tories' social care plans fall far short of what Boris Johnson promised'

Asia's Tech News Daily

On entering Downing Street Boris Johnson pledged to fix the crisis in social care once and for all.

The Government finally set out its plans today and it is clear they fall far short of what the Prime Minister promised.

While some elements will be welcomed, not least the extra support for the disabled, this package of measures does nothing to address the immediate pressures nor lay the foundations for a better service in the future.

The Government is planning to spend just £1.7billion over the next three years.

This is not nearly adequate to solve the lack of provision, improve the quality of care and halt the exodus of staff.

Do you agree? Have your say in the comment section

More than 400,000 people are on council care waiting lists, 200,000 are awaiting assessment and there are 100,000 staff vacancies.

Yet the Social Care White Paper had almost nothing to say on staff pay and recruitment.

Taxpayers will rightly ask why they must pay more, but see no improvement in services.

Mix message

Senior ministers this week called for a new national effort to beat Omicron.

The public would be more willing to do their bit if those at the top also did theirs.

But with this Government it is always one rule for them and one for everyone else.

We saw this when Dominic Cummings breached lockdown and when Boris Johnson refused to wear a mask on a visit to a hospital.

And we have seen it again with our revelation that Downing Street staff partied away while the rest of us were told to stay at home.

Boris Johnson is taking us for fools.

And by doing so he’s undermining faith in the Government’s public health message at a crucial moment in our fight against Covid.

Wishing well
