Toyota reckons it can shift 400 examples a month by following a similar blueprint to before, but with a number of powertrain, handling and safety upgrades in addition to a slightly revamped design.

Toyota also quotes a weight of around 2,300kg (similar to a Land Rover Discovery).

The new 70 also comes with an armada of driving systems on board, including Active Traction Control and Vehicle Stability Control. These have been paired with the various safety systems that can be accessed through Toyota’s Safety Sense suite.

The price for all this retro goodness? A smudge over £25,700. Not that anyone will be exchanging any Sterling for one, mind.
