hamilton accies must reflect on devastating falkirk defeat, says striker

Hamilton face a huge task to overhaul Falkirk’s commanding lead over them

Ahkeem Rose says everybody at Hamilton Accies needs to take a long, hard look at themselves after falling to a crushing 3-2 defeat that effectively hands the League One title to Falkirk.

On-loan Ayr United striker Rose bagged a double in his first Accies start, but it wasn’t enough to rescue a point after a devastating three goals in 27 minutes sealed the win for the Bairns at the Falkirk Stadium.

Calumn Morrison sent them on their way in 15 with a thunderous finish, Ross Maciver nicked in to prod the ball under Jamie Smith after he failed to hold a tame Aidan Nesbitt effort, and Calvin Miller bagged the winner with a looping header.

Rose rounded keeper Nicky Hogarth to pull a goal back in 32 minutes, then bulleted a header in from Jamie Barjonas’ corner in 57 minutes to provide a nervy 30-minute spell for Falkirk.

However, the win puts Falkirk 11 points clear of Accies, with a game in hand against Montrose tomorrow likely to see that stretched to 14.

Rose said: “The first 30 minutes weren’t good enough, we accept that.

“The gaffer told us at half-time, and we can all look at ourselves and be better.

“It feels like a massive loss. There’s a bigger gap now between first and second, but we’re not going to feel sorry for ourselves.

“We’re going to go again next week and the boys are in there feeling down, but we’re allowed to be, after results like that.”

Hamilton host Alloa on Saturday as they strive to ensure they at least grab a play-off slot, and Rose said: “We’ll just keep going until the end, now.

“You can never say the title is beyond you, there are a lot of games still to go.

“We’ve just got to do our jobs, and if results go our way then fair enough, but we’ve just got to focus on ourselves and see what happens.

“Every game is massive for us between now and the end of the season, and we’ve just got to take care of our business and just focus on ourselves.

“We’ve just got to pick ourselves up and go again against Alloa next week.

“We’re all just trying to be better.”

On his goals, Rose said: “It’s always positive to get goals, but we lost the game so I can’t enjoy it at the minute.”
