A forest fire hit a three-hectare wooded area in Camp John Hay in Baguio City on Sunday morning, marking the fourth forest fire this month alone in the country’s summer capital.

The fire was said to have spread quickly, affecting communication lines in the area, as reported on GMA’s “24 Oras Weekend” on Sunday.

There were no casualties from the fire.

According to a 8:17 a.m. post on the Baguio City Public Information Office Facebook page, the forest fire broke out at Camp John Hay’s Voice of America area.

In an interview on Super Radyo DZBB, Philippine Air Force spokesperson Colonle Maria Consuelo Constillo said latest reports from units in the area have indicated that the fire is in control.

“So far naman po, ang report naman po ng ating [units], in control po, so wala pa naman so far directive ang OCD [Office of Civil Defense] para mag-participate ang ating Philippine Air Force sa pag-extinguish ng fire,” she said.

“Ibig sabihin po, kung hindi pa pinapatawag ang Philippine Air Force ay in control naman po,” she added.

(So far, reports of our units say in control, so there is no directive so far from the OCD for the Philippine Air Force to participate in extinguishing the fire… This means, if the Philippine Air Force is not called, the situation is in control.) — Jon Viktor Cabuenas/DVM/BM, GMA Integrated News
