Tom Ford's husband of 35 years fashion editor Richard Buckley dies

Richard Buckley, the husband of fashion designer Tom Ford, has died at the age of 72 from natural causes after a long illness.

The couple have been together for over three decades, with the sad news being confirmed by Tom Ford’s representatives in a statement.

Speaking about the renowned fashion editor and journalist, the statement read: ‘It is with great sadness that Tom Ford announces the death of his beloved husband of 35 years, Richard Buckley.’

It continued: ‘Richard passed away peacefully at their home in Los Angeles with Tom and their son Jack by his side.’

Tom Ford, 60, first met the love of his life Richard in 1986 while they both attended a fashion show, and they later went on to get married in 2014.

It seems to have been something like love at first sight for the two men, as back in 2016, the fashion designer recalled the sweet moment he first met Richard.

Speaking during an appearance on The Jess Cagle Interview as reported by People, Tom gushed: ‘Our eyes locked and within a month we were living together. We have been together ever since.

‘It was literally one of those things. It was literally love at first sight. The first time I can remember seeing his eyes it freaked me out. I really could almost not look at him.

‘There was something in his eyes that said, “Literally, the rest of your life.” It was wonderful, but very scary,’ he added.

Tom recalled it was in the elevator that they first met, as, during the ride down the 10 floors, the designer knew that Richard was the one, and since that moment they were inseparable, finding that ‘respect’ was the secret to their relationship’s longevity.

Richard was a well-known journalist, after having made a solid career for himself in the fashion world.

He first began his writing career in New York Magazine in 1979. He then went on to publications that included Women’s Wear Daily and Vanity Fair.
