Parents share concerns over rising school fees after Gurugram man’s viral post

After a man from Gurugram expressed concern over the sharp increase in his son’s school fees, a discussion ensued online as several parents also shared similar thoughts. People shared opinions that echoed Udit Bhandari’s sentiments after his post went viral on X.Â

Bhandari, who currently pays Rs 30,000 per month as his son’s Class 3 fees, raised an alarm with his post as he said that the fees would continue to compound at a rate of 10 per cent per annum.

His post, meanwhile, prompted a discussion on social media as concerned parents expressed “shock” over the rise in school fees.Â

Sandeep Mall, a renowned author, decided not to send his granddaughter to the “most branded school” after he learnt of her fees.Â

Sandeep also said that the amount of money they would pay to complete her education of 21 years will be way more than the capital she will need to kickstart her career.

“It’s tough to be parents in today’s times. Have so much more empathy and compassion for this generation. Getting a decent job and taking care of family in any city is killing,” he added in his post.Â

Another X user shared a picture of his son’s playschool fee which he humorously compared with his “entire education expense.”Â

X user Amit Bhawani claimed that his child’s school and tuition fees, which are currently Rs 3 lakh per year. He mentioned that the fees have increased by 10 -15 per cent this year.

A person from Chennai shared a similar concern about “shelling out” Rs 1.4 lakh for his child’s education who is studying in first standard.Â

The skyrocketing fees of schools are also common in Bengaluru. A person mentioned the school fees of his friend’s daughter, who is currently studying in Class 2 at a reputed school. Her fees amount to approximately Rs 8 lakh per annum, including food and transportation.

The grievances about high school fees resonated well with almost every parent on social media. A section of the internet even asked why parents have to admit their children to such expensive schools.Â

“Admit them to government schools and teach them at home. Most viable option,” a person said. “Perils of privatisation. What’s stopping them from sending their kids to Kendriya Vidyalaya or Saraswati Shishu Mandir,” another said.Â

With these stories coming up regularly on social media, it is quite evident that parents – particularly those with children in private institutions – are increasingly worried about the soaring cost of education.
