MP Khalid Mahmood
An MP is objecting to an application to transform a Kingstanding home into a six bedroomed House of Multiple Occupation (HMO). A plan has been lodged to convert the semi-detached property on Gainford Road to accommodate half a dozen residents.
According to layout plans, there would be a communal kitchen lounge area with two bedrooms with adjoining shower rooms leading off a hallway on the ground floor. Four further bedrooms with shower rooms would be on the first floor.
Three parking spaces would be created with dropped kerbs. There is a separate planning application which proposes to build a two-storey side extension and single-storey rear extension to enlarge the existing dwelling.
Local MP Khalid Mahmood said he would be opposing the proposals which are due to go to planning at a future date. He said: “It’s going to have a detrimental effect on the community – you’ve got different groups of people coming in.
“I will be objecting.”
The HMO site is close to the Princess Alice Retail Park, Aldi, Homebase and the Chester Road.
