On Sunday, in a statement, the Gaza health ministry informed that a total of 28,176 Palestinians have been killed, and 67,784 have been injured in Israeli strikes on Gaza since October 7. In the past 24 hours, nearly 112 Palestinians were killed and 173 injured, the ministry said.

Since October 7 2023, a battle between Israel and Hamas-led Palestinian militant groups has been taking place mainly in and around the Gaza Strip. On that day, militant groups of Palestinians launched a surprise attack on southern Israel from the Gaza Strip. This immediately started the most significant military escalation in the region.

After removing Hamas militants from its territory, the Israeli army launched an extensive aerial bombardment of the Gaza Strip.

This was followed by a large-scale ground invasion beginning on 27 October. Also, conflicts have occurred in the Israeli-occupied West Bank and with Hezbollah along the Israel–Lebanon border.

There have been widespread international protests that have mainly called for a ceasefire.

In January, the World Court ordered Israel to stop acts of genocide against the Palestinians and do more to assist civilians. However, the court stopped short of ordering a ceasefire as requested by South Africa. While the ruling dashed Palestinian hopes of a binding order to suspend the war in Gaza, it also represented a legal setback for Israel, which had expected to throw out a case brought under the genocide convention established in the ashes of the Holocaust.
