Three-point shootout among bigs replaces slam dunk in PBA All-Stars

THE PBA All-Star Weekend 2024 will feature not just one but two three-point shootouts in the skills competition of the event to be held in Bacolod City.

Under the new format, a three-point shoot-out among big men will now be introduced as a replacement to the slam dunk contest, and separate from the main three-point shootout usually contested by guards.

The obstacle challenge remains part of the festivities to be played on March 23 at the University of St. La Salle Coliseum.

Jason Perkins of Phoenix, and Sean Anthony of NLEX, and Keith Datu of Rain or Shine, two of the top three-point shooters in the previous conference in terms of percentage, are among the players competing in the big men three-point shoot-out.

Also participating are Ralph Cu of Barangay Ginebra, Christian David of Blackwater, Keith Zaldivar of Converge, Aris Dionisio of Magnolia, Brandon Bates of Meralco, JM Calma of NorthPort, Mo Tautuaa of San Miguel, Isaac Go of Terrafirma, and Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser of TNT.

Paul Lee of Magnolia returns to defend his three-point shoot-out title where he will compete against last season’s runner-up Marcio Lassiter of San Miguel, two-time champion James Yap of Blackwater, Maverick Ahanmisi of Barangay Ginebra, Alec Stockton of Converge, Chris Newsome of Meralco, Robbie Herndon of NLEX, Arvin Tolentino of NorthPort, Tyler Tio of Phoenix, Andrei Caracut of Rain or Shine, Javi Gomez de Liano of Terrafirma, and Calvin Oftana of TNT.

Dave Marcelo of NLEX is also defending his obstacle challenge crown against Christian Standhardinger of Barangay Ginebra, Clifford Jopia of Blackwater, Justin Arana of Converge, James Laput of Magnolia, Bates, Calma, Perkins, Datu, Tautuaa, and Ganuelas-Rosser.
