HÀ NỘI — As many as 324,000 used condoms that were about to be cleaned and resold have been seized by authorities in the southern province of Bình Dương.

Last Saturday, the Bình Dương management department found 360 kilos of used condoms and thousands of condoms that had been packed and readied for sale, without any brand names, in a facility in the province's Tân Vĩnh Hiệp Ward in Tân Uyên Town of the province.

The facility was rented by Phạm Thị Thanh Ngọc, 32, who was born and raised in the central province of Nghệ An and currently resides in Bình Dương for work.

At first, Ngọc could not show the paperwork that verified the legal origin of the condoms. She claimed she received thousands of used condoms from an “unknown source” once a month. Her job after that was to clean, dry and sort the condoms before making them look fresh again for new customers.

More details about the illegal operation were not released. Authorities are investigating the case further. — VNS
