Jammu and Kashmir lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday said those involved in killings of civilians will have to pay the price and promised that the administration won’t rest till the militancy is wiped out of the Union Territory.

Sinha, addressing a police commemoration ceremony in Zewan area of Srinagar, said those attempting to disrupt peace would get a befitting reply.

In a veiled reference to Pakistan, Sinha blamed it for disrupting peace in Kashmir. “Those involved in inhuman and barbarous acts of violence are enemies of peace. We won’t rest till the militancy is wiped out of this soil.”

The LG said nobody would be allowed to disrupt the age-old social tradition of the Valley. “I pay tribute to the civilians and the policemen who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty,” said Sinha.

Sinha said the J&K Police was upgrading its technical capabilities to deal with the situation. He also announced the establishment of a hostel-cum-school facility for the children of policemen killed in action.

J&K DGP Dilbag Singh said the recent attacks on civilians were aimed at triggering communal fissures in the UT, but the police acted swiftly to foil such plans.

With Union home minister Amit Shah scheduled to visit the Valley on October 23, the police and paramilitary forces are on high alert as well.

In the wake of targeted civilian killings across Kashmir, the administration has launched a massive security operation across the Valley. Hundreds of youths have been detained, questioned and summoned to crackdown on over ground supporters of militants.
