A Thursday afternoon fire that hit a firearms and ammunition manufacturer warehouse in Marikina City caused P14 million in damage, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection.

The BFP also said the fire at the Armscor Compound started at around 3:55 p.m. and reached the second alarm at around 4:04 p.m.

A series of explosions were heard during the fire as employees ran away from the blaze, according to a report on GTV’s State of the Nation on Thursday.

The fire, which affected 400 square meters of property, was put out at 5:20 p.m.

According to the city fire marshal, the blaze started at a storage area for gunpowder.

The Armscor management vowed to assist the injured and the residents whose property was damaged.

The management said the plant would continue operations as there was no major damage to the facility.

The fire injured four people, the BFP said.

“We do have cameras and security here. So we have given everybody full access to be able to investigate this matter and see the root cause of the problem,” Armscor president and CEO Martin Tuazon said.

“If anybody is injured or any house is damaged or anything like that, Armscor will be taking care of it, 100%. But as far as I know right now, none of that is necessary,” he added. — Joviland Rita/DVM, GMA Integrated News
