The High Court adjourned Najib Razak’s 1MDB trial today as lead counsel Shafee Abdullah (left) was unwell.
KUALA LUMPUR: The hearing of Najib Razak’s 1MDB trial today was vacated after the High Court was told that lead defence counsel Shafee Abdullah is unwell.
Lawyer Tania Scivetti informed the court that Shafee would be going to see a doctor later.
“He is having some issues with palpitations and is concerned,” she said.
Justice Collin Lawrence Sequerah adjourned the hearing to tomorrow and expressed hope that Shafee would be fine by then.
Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Akram Gharib told the court that both the prosecution and defence had agreed to eight additional trial dates between March 14 and April 4.
Investigating officer Nur Aida Arifin is currently on the witness stand.
Najib is facing 25 counts of money laundering and abuse of power over alleged 1MDB funds amounting to RM2.28 billion deposited into his AmBank accounts between February 2011 and December 2014.
