There are a few Y2K products popping up this spring like lip gloss (yay) and frosted lipstick (nay), but there’s one mini makeup trend that is should be embraced with open arms because it looks good on everyone.
It’s simple straightforward, and growing in popularity every day on social media, and it is achieved with a humble eyeliner.
Colourful and pretty, it involves lining the eye’s waterline with a touch of colour, something that hasn’t been trending for a very long time.
Don’t worry, the way it’s worn as a makeup trend in 2023 is very different to what was happening 20 years ago, and there is a shade to suit every eye colour.
Mini Makeup Trend
Ever so slowly over the last year or so has been the return of white, nude or buff eyeliner for the waterline of the eyes. Graphic liner was everywhere too, but fast-forward to now, that is moving away from scribbles on the lid and wild designs to simply being used on the waterline.
It’s a move that really enhances every eye colour, but what’s interesting is that the most popular colour to wear is the one that matches your eye colour.
It’s this that makes the eyes pop, green on green, blue on blue, and for brown eyes, well you can wear anything you like the look of.
Coloured Eyeliner
Here’s the thing, if you go by the rules of the colour wheel when choosing products for any makeup trend, the most common way is to choose the opposite shade of your eye colour.
This works, but so does choosing colours that sit on either side of it from the same family, as such light blue with blue, deeper green with green and so forth. Why this doesn’t apply to brown eyes is because the shade isn’t on the colour wheel so there are no rules, you get to wear any colour at all and it will look great.
To get a great shade for this mini makeup trend, take a look below at some of the best brands for spring 2023. If you do your homework you will find coloured liners at all price points. Give it a try, a mini makeup trend like this can make a big difference to your look, frosted lipstick we can’t comment on at this time.
