This evening I saved a man’s life on M25 flyover, says EastEnders’ Danny Hatchard

EASTENDERS star Danny Hatchard helped save a man who was contemplating taking his own life on the M25 flyover yesterday evening.

The actor, who is best known for playing Lee Carter in the BBC soap from 2014 to 2017, did his bit to help until the police turned up at the scene.

The 30-year-old shared the heartbreaking experience with his followers on Twitter.

Danny said: “This evening I spoke to a man standing on the wrong side of a flyover above the M25 about to take his own life.

“Eventually the police took over when they arrived, and I believe he survived.

“But you know, let’s keep all eyes on this f*****g virus whilst Suicide numbers skyrocket.”

Fans rushed to the platform to praise the star for his bravery.

One replied to his post: “I am so happy you were there for him. You may have saved someone's life.”

A second said: “Lucky you were there. I well remember your scene in EastEnders a few years ago calling attention to this. Had me in tears.”

A third added: “All it takes is that one person…to stop, think and listen… well done Danny! xXx.”

It comes just weeks after the soap star opened up about attempting suicide as a 19-year-old student because he struggled socially and “didn't want to be alive anymore.”

He made the shocking revelation in a series of Twitter posts on Friday defending drama school boss Chris Hocking, who  has resigned after an investigation found dance classes were “overly sexualised.”

He wrote: “The beginning of my first year at Arts was very difficult. I remember checking the easiest and most painless ways I could take my life.

“I felt so socially out of my depth that I didn't want to be alive anymore.

“One Friday night in particular I made preparations to make a huge mistake, before realising that passing my onto my family wasn't the answer. It never is…”

Danny also told how he asked his head teacher for help, who then paid for a counselor for him.

He said: “He told me I was going to be alright and offered to pay for me to see a counselor who went onto completely change my life.”

Back in 2016 the star was praised for Lee Carter's depression storyline.

The ex-soldier had been struggling with his mental health for months and contemplated suicide in emotionally draining scenes over the festive period.

The telesales worker, who was married to Whitney Dean at the time, was talked down by a parking attendant who got him to open up about his life and family.

She convinced him that taking his own life wasn't the answer and gave him a card for the Samaritans.

Lee left Albert Square back in 2018, but returned for a brief stint last year.

His alter-ego is currently living in Dover with his new girlfriend Sophie.

Since his stint on EastEnders, Danny has played Private Rhett Charlton in Our Girl and Lee in Ridley Road.
