San Francisco 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk (11) celebrates after scoring a touchdown against the Washington Commanders.
The San Francisco 49ers‘ offseason has been relatively quiet, but the Brandon Aiyuk contract situation remains unresolved, and the 2024 NFL Draft is approaching. Here’s the latest news on the 49ers.
San Francisco 49ers News Today
The 2024 NFL Draft is just a couple weeks away, which means the rumors are starting to heat up. We break down the latest gossip around the 49ers and their plans with the 31st pick as well as a potential target in Pro Football Network’s latest mock draft.
49ers Widely Expected To Draft an OT in Round 1
The 49ers are one of the most complete teams in the NFL, but one of their few roster needs that sticks out is on the offensive line.
Trent Williams is perhaps the NFL’s best left tackle, but he’ll be 36 years old this season, and the 49ers will need his eventual replacement. But on the other side, San Francisco could use an upgrade over starting right tackle Colton McKivitz, even though he signed a one-year extension last month.
According to ESPN NFL Draft Analyst Jordan Reid, right tackle is one of two positions (along with cornerback) most brought up by scouts when talking about areas of improvement for the 49ers.
Considering San Francisco has a ton of draft capital and is set at most positions, Reid mentions that they could be a prime trade-up candidate for an offensive tackle. He names Georgia’s Amarius Mims and Arizona’s Jordan Morgan as two possible targets.
Joe Broback’s 2024 NFL Mock Draft: 49ers Land OT in Round 1
The 2024 NFL Draft is two weeks away, and it’s crunch time. In Joe Broback’s most recent mock draft, the 49ers put together a haul that included three top-100 picks, with two of them being defense.
In Round 1, the 49ers secured Oklahoma OT Tyler Guyton, who would then lineup opposite Trent Williams.
“Guyton brings a big frame to the NFL and he will learn more of the nuances of the position by joining an experienced group,” said Broback.
Kendrick Bourne Pushing for Brandon Aiyuk Trade to New England
Besides the draft, one of the other major things looming around San Francisco has been Aiyuk and whether the team will trade him or not. As a result, lots of interest has been thrown around, including from his former teammate Kendrick Bourne.
Bourne recently signed a deal to stay in New England, and now he wants Aiyuk to join him. “Come to NE,” said Bourne in a video he shared of himself and Aiyuk.
Aiyuk has caught 269 passes for 3,931 yards and 25 touchdowns in his four-year career. He is currently set to be a free agent following the 2024 NFL season.
