AFCON: South Africa demolish Namibia to brighten hope of knockout stage

By Kazeem Ugbodaga

The Bafana Bafana of South Africa outclassed and demolished Namibia 4-0 on Sunday to brighten their chances of qualifying for the knockout stage of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The South Africans came like wounded lions after they lost their opening match to Mali.

They bounced back with a spectacular display of beautiful football to outclass Namibia which had shocked Tunisia in the first match.

The Bafana Bafana were in front in the 14th minute of the match from the penalty spot. The kick was converted by Percy Tau.

Midway into the first half, superb work from Thapelo Morena, who played a vital role in the build-up allowed South Africa to add a second goal. He squared the ball to Themba Zwane, who beat Lloyd Junior Kazapua with a brilliant shot into the right side of the net.

Five minutes to the end of the first half, Themba Zwane got his brace. He dribbled into the box and fired the ball inside the right post to make it 3-0 for the Bafana Bafana.

The South Africans completed the rout 15 minutes to the end of the match. Teboho Mokoena laid the ball off to Thapelo Maseko, who shot from close range into the bottom right corner, leaving the goalkeeper helpless, making it 4-0.
