The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are reportedly planning a trip back from the US “soon” to visit with the royals.
Their former home, Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, is now the residence of Eugenie and her family — husband Jack Brooksbank and son August, seven months.
This means Eugenie may be the first to meet Lilibet and welcome the couple back to the UK and into the royal fold.
The princess has always been close to her cousins Prince William and Prince Harry and is said to be close to Meghan, the pair having fallen pregnant at around the same time — Eugenie with August and Meghan with Lilibet.
When Harry returned to the UK this year, he reportedly stayed at Frogmore Cottage, where he will have spent time with new baby August.
The bond between Eugenie and William and Harry mirrors the closeness of their mothers Sarah Ferguson and Princess Diana when they first joined the royal family. The pair were close friends and even holidayed together, giving their children plenty of time to forge special bonds.
They were both divorced in 1996; Sarah and Prince Andrew finalised their split that year, as did Diana and Prince Charles.
Authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand spoke of Harry’s closeness with Eugenie in the book Finding Freedom.
“Like Harry, Eugenie also struggled to carve out her own identity growing up,” they write.
“Harry had always confided in his cousin when it came to the women in his life. Not only did he trust her implicitly, but friends say that she gives great advice and has always been ‘beyond wise’ for her years.”
Harry and Meghan welcomed daughter Lilibet on June 4, a sibling for Archie, who is now two. While the duke has travelled to the UK twice since the couple resigned as senior working members of the monarchy — once for Prince Philip’s funeral in April, and again for the unveiling of a statue of Princess Diana in July — Meghan hasn’t as yet.
The family have settled into their new home in Montecito, California, where they now operate independently under the brand Archewell.
Queen Elizabeth is yet to meet her newest great-grandchild and namesake. Lilibet is Her Majesty’s 11th great-grandchild.
It has been reported the Queen is keen to welcome Harry and Meghan back into the royal fold, despite lingering tensions between the couple and the family, Charles and William in particular.
This comes after the Sussexes made a number of claims that have been damaging to the monarchy, including in their sit-down interview with TV mogul Oprah Winfrey, which aired in March.
During this interview, the couple alleged a senior member of the royal family made disparaging comments about the possible colour of Archie’s skin.
Meghan also claimed she had felt suicidal and was denied access to help during her time with the monarchy.Internet Explorer Channel Network
