‘The Real CSI: Miami’ True-Crime Series Set At CBS This Summer; ‘Big Brother’ Season 26 Premiere Date Announced
“CSI: Vegas” may be canceled, but CBS isn’t giving up on the franchise. The Eye network announced Tuesday a new edition in the “CSI” universe – but this time in the unscripted space.
CBS has ordered the unscripted, true-crime docuseries “The Real CSI: Miami” based on the drama “CSI: Miami,” which aired from 2002 to 2012 (for 10 seasons and 232 episodes). The new series is set to release on CBS on June 26 at 10 p.m. ET. The news came as CBS announced its summer lineup.
The logline for “The Real CSI: Miami” reads, “Each episode features gripping real-life crime cases and the cutting-edge forensic science used to solve them. ‘The Real CSI: Miami’ highlights that at the heart of every story is a victim and a family seeking justice.”
The news of another “CSI” show being ordered comes after the last show in the franchise “CSI: Vegas” announced its cancellation in April after three seasons.
Last week CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach hinted to reporters, while announcing the network’s 2024-2025 TV schedule, that there was a new “CSI” project in the works at the Eye network.
“We definitely think that franchise is alive and well,” Reisenbach said. “We’ll continue to be in discussions. It’s a part of our legacy as a company and yes, I think that ultimately we’ll find different and interesting ways to bring the show back.”
The franchise began with “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” in 2000 and then four spinoff series followed including “CSI: Miami,” “CSI: New York,” “CSI: Cyber” and “CSI: Vegas.”
“In addition to ‘CSI’ being such a global hit and all the iterations, two of the strongest channels on Pluto TV are ‘CSI’ channels,” added CBS CEO George Cheeks. “That franchise is very much alive and vibrant. And you could imagine it coming back in many ways.”
“The Real CSI: Miami” is produced by JBTV and Magical Elves. It’s executive produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Anthony E. Zuiker, KristieAnne Reed, Ann Donahue, Carol Mendelsohn, Jo Sharon, Casey Kriley and John Henshaw.
Beyond “The Real CSI: Miami,” CBS also announced other premiere dates for its summer lineup, which launches with the network’s debut of Paramount+’s Sylvester Stallone series “Tulsa King” on Sunday, July 14 at 8 p.m. Also upcoming ate the Season 26 premiere of “Big Brother” on Wednesday, July 17, at 9 p.m. ET, and the return of “Let’s Make a Deal Primetime” on Wednesday, Aug. 7 at 8 p.m. ET.
Summer specials include “Greatest @Home Videos: Father’s Day Edition,” hosted by Cedric the Entertainer, on Friday, June 14 at 8 p.m. And as previously announced, the 51st Daytime Emmys air on Friday, June 7, at 8 p.m. ET and the 77th Tony Awards air on Sunday, June 16, at 8 p.m. ET.
