The new Maxus T90EV is the first all-electric pickup truck in the UK

Chinese firm gives you an electric alternative to the diesel-powered Ford Ranger and Volkswagen Amarok

The new Maxus T90EV is the first all-electric pickup truck in the UK

  • Available to order now for early 2023 delivery
  • 220-mile range
  • Prices start at £49,950

The Maxus T90EV electric truck is on sale now with prices starting from £49,950. It currently has the all-electric pickup market sewn up, giving you an EV alternative to the Toyota Hilux, new Ford Ranger and new Volkswagen Amarok you have been considering.

Maxus has kept exterior changes subtle, the main difference being under the skin where you’ll now find an 89kWh battery pack and an electric motor producing 201bhp. That gives the T90EV a range of up to 220 miles while charging the battery from 20-80% takes 45 minutes using an 80kW charger.

Will it be up to tough tasks? Well, Maxus quotes a 1,000kg maximum payload – up from the original 740kg estimate, meaning the T90EV is eligible to be exempt from VAT – and claims its truck can pull an unbraked trailer weighing up to 1,500kg.

To compete with the more established competition, you can expect your Maxus T90EV to be generously equipped with kit such as a 10.25-inch media display screen, reversing camera, LED lights and 17-inch alloys. Options include off-road all-terrain tyres, front bumper winch, and load bay cover.

While an EV pickup is a new idea in the UK, in the USA – home of the truck – you can buy an electric version of the bestselling Ford F150, named Lightning, and the Rivian R1T.

Don’t expect Maxus to have it all its own way in the UK, though, both Ford and VW have hinted that electric pickups are in their future plans.
