With spring in full bloom and sunnier days ahead, many Britons will be spending more time in their gardens.

Heading into the shed to bring out the outdoor furniture is an annual task that often results in disappointment as it comes out looking a little worse for wear after being neglected throughout the winter.

One woman who was dealing with this very issue, decided to get the advice of the fans of Sophie Hinchcliffe – or as her millions of followers better know her, Mrs Hinch.

Joy Milton took to the popular Facebook group ‘Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips,’ which has more than 410,000 members, with the hope that someone would be able to suggest a quick fix for her furniture.

She penned: ‘Black mould spots on a garden chair cushion cover. It’s not removable, and it’s got a yellow sponge inside.

‘The label says it can’t be washed in the machine. Should I risk it?’

While a number of cleaning fanatics rushed to the comments offering different solutions, there was one which stood out as the most popular – mould and mildew spray.

The Astonish Mould & Mildew Blaster is a favourite of Mrs Hinch fans, as well has having stellar ratings and reviews online.

One commenter insisted: ‘Spray with mould and mildew remover – should go. I was mine and put back on whilst damp.

‘My mum’s can’t be removed and she sprayed them and said they’re fine – good luck!’

Joy replied: ‘I might try the spray and maybe sponge them off to rinse them. Thank you!’

In another post, a different user asked the same question after being faced with the pesky summertime problem.

Jeremiah Butler wrote: ‘How do I get mould off my garden furniture? The covers are cream and they are waterproof but it has been so damp.

The raved-about 750ml product costs just £1.50 in high-street retailers such as Poundland, Sainsburys and Iceland

‘I tried steeping in vanish, I tried mould and mildew spray, still there unforuntately. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.’

Coming to the rescue, group members quipped: ‘Astonish mould and mildew spray with soft scrubbing brush’ and ‘Repeat mould and mildew spray. Saturate the material well’.

A third advised: ‘I have cream waterproof cushions too and Astonish Mould and Mildew worked on mine. I sprayed it onto a saucer and dipped a cotton bud into the liquid, then dabbed it onto the mould spots’.

The popular 750ml product costs just £1.50 in high-street retailers such as Poundland, Sainsburys, and Iceland.

Its product description reads: ‘The UKs No1 Mould & Mildew Remover! Our Mould & Mildew blasts away tough stains and effectively removes mould and mildew stains in minutes.

‘For a long-lasting cleaning solution, use regularly to help prevent the return of mould.

‘Ideal for use on walls, uPVC window frames, glass, plastic shower curtains, bathroom tiles, grout, silicone sealant, concrete, sinks and plugholes.’

And it’s not the first helpful tip that’s come from the cleaning legend’s Facebook group – previously, a desperate mum reached out to members to ask for help on the build up of sludge in and around her washing machine.

It was proving stubborn to remove as it became grimy over time.

The mother reached out for help from users on the social media site, as she asked: ‘Help. I’ve neglected our washing machine since becoming a mum and now it has a build-up of black on the seal that I can’t seem to wipe off. Any suggestions, please? Thank you.’

Luckily, fans of the cleaning pro were quick to offer helpful tried-and-tested advice – with several people suggesting the same product to do the trick.

The one item that came out on top was once again the Astonish Mould and Mildew Spray.

Several people on Facebook commented they had used the spray themselves to not only get rid of the grime, but also get their washing machine sparkling again.

One Mrs Hinch fan wrote on the social media site: ‘Astonish Mould and Mildew spray. If you use this you’ll find that the mould wipes straight off.’

Someone else agreed, writing: ‘This stuff is really good.

‘Recently I used it in the detergent drawer and where the water comes out. It’s a game changer for removing black build-up.’
