UPDATE: Cape Town eight-hour power outage scheduled for Tuesday cancelled

The City of Cape Town Electricity Generation and Distribution Department has cancelled infrastructure maintenance in Lansdowne, that would have resulted in a power outage.

The critical maintenance was first carried out on Tuesday, 13 February and and was scheduled to be carried out again on Tuesday, 20 February.

ANOTHER EIGHT-HOUR POWER OUTAGE IN CAPE TOWN

Initially, the City of Cape Town said the electricity infrastructure maintenance will be carried out on Tuesday, 20 February 2024, from 8:00 to 16:00.

“City Electricity teams have completed the first part of the infrastructure maintenance in Lansdowne on 13 February 2024. The planned maintenance and supply interruption scheduled for Tuesday, 20 February 2024 is no longer required, as the work has been completed,” the municipality said.

The maintenance will be done again on Wednesday, 20 March 2024, from 8:00 to 16:00 and on 27 March 2024, from 8:00 to 16:00

“This is important maintenance of critical power infrastructure in the Lansdowne area. The maintenance work ensures a reliable electricity supply for residents in the area. The City apologises for any inconvenience caused,” the City of Cape Town said.

RESIDENTS URGED TO TREAT APPLIANCES AS LIVE 

Furthermore, the municipality warned that the electricity supply could be restored at any time, and customers must please treat all electrical installations as live for the entire duration of the interruption.

Residents are encouraged to switch off appliances as a precaution and to avoid damage caused by power surges when the power comes back on.
