The Disney Sidekick You Are Based On Your Zodiac Sign
Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

The zodiac encompasses just about every human characteristic under the sun. Each of the twelve signs has its own unique set of strengths and weaknesses, and each is especially compatible (or incompatible) with an opposing sign. Figuring out what your zodiac sign really means can be extremely overwhelming as there is a seemingly endless amount of information to take in. It feels like something that can take an eternity to unpack, but we may just have a solution that makes discovering your star sign a whole lot of fun.

Disney has been positively dominant in the world of animation since the release of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” in 1937, and it has shown no signs of slowing down. When you think of what makes the animation studio so prolific, it typically comes down to awe-inspiring animation, memorable songs, and, perhaps most importantly, incredible casts of characters. While the main protagonists are often compelling, it’s the sidekicks who so often steal the show with their memorable one-liners, helpful attitudes, and show-stopping musical numbers. Some people just weren’t cut out to be a Disney villain (though we have a list for them, too), and many people feel like they belong somewhere just outside the limelight. So, in order to understand the wild world of astrology, here is a guide to the Disney sidekick you are based on your zodiac sign.

Aquarius: Archimedes

The Disney Sidekick You Are Based On Your Zodiac Sign
Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

When thinking of 1963’s “The Sword in the Stone,” it’s hard not to think of Merlin the wizard. While Merlin is often considered one of the wisest characters in the entire Disney canon, it’s his pet owl Archimedes that’s the real brains behind the wizarding operation. Archimedes possesses many of the key traits for an Aquarius – covering those born between January 20 and February 18. Typical of the Aquarius sign, Archimedes is highly intellectual, as evidenced by his frequent efforts to point out Merlin’s shortcomings and astound Arthur with his boundless practical knowledge. Archimedes adores a good intellectual conversation and can be bored quite easily if his conversational partner isn’t up to the task.

Aquarians are independent, and they possess a serious need to be on their own so they can recharge. This makes Archimedes a perfect fit, as he’s hardly ever found in his birdhouse. Instead, he’s typically pottering about solo and absorbing knowledge whenever possible. Archimedes really does embody what makes an Aquarius special — deeply intelligent, values independence, loyal, uncompromising, and passionate. Plus, as a delightful bonus, Archimedes has given audiences one of the most iconic laughs in Disney history, while proving Merlin wrong about flying. Unfortunately, Archimedes is technically wrong, but Merlin only knows that man will fly one day because he can time travel. It’s hardly fair to expect an Aquarius to be able to travel through time, so we’ll chalk this one up as a reasonable fault for our beloved owl sidekick.

Pisces: Genie

The Disney Sidekick You Are Based On Your Zodiac Sign
Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

The Disney Renaissance of the 1990s is overflowing with memorable characters and provided a major step forward in the role of the sidekick. Perhaps most beloved of all is from 1992’s “Aladdin,” which is impressive considering the Genie was almost a completely different character. The Genie, voiced by the unforgettable Robin Williams, is nothing short of legendary, and a Pisces through and through. While it isn’t out of the question for a sidekick of having a song of their own, Genie has two, especially emblematic of the Pisces’ musical nature. Both “Friend Like Me” and “Prince Ali”, written by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman are treasured thanks to a magical performance from Williams as everyone’s blue best friend.

For those Pisces born between February 19 and March 20, Genie represents all the very best elements of the star sign. His musical gifts are bountiful, he’s extremely compassionate, is deeply selfless, and is always willing to put everyone else’s needs above his own. Pisces have a deep connection to the arts and love to express themselves any way they can. Who epitomizes this better than Genie, who expresses his feelings through song, stand-up comedy, celebrity impressions, and magical transformations?

Aries: Timothy Q. Mouse

The Disney Sidekick You Are Based On Your Zodiac Sign
Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

An Aries –- those born between March 21 and April 19 –- is a natural leader. While Timothy Q. Mouse is technically Dumbo’s sidekick, he takes full responsibility for the charming elephant and helps him be brave and embrace his large ears that everyone makes fun of him for. Timothy is honest, brave, and self-assertive -– all vital traits for the Aries. Though Aries can be impatient and get frustrated at the lack of progress, Timothy remains steadfast in his commitment to Dumbo and refuses to let the bullies bring him down. Timothy is so committed to his role as a leader that he even communicates successfully with humans, convincing the circus ringleaders of Dumbo’s amazing flying ability.

Like a true Aries, Timothy is bold, brave, and has a strong sense of right and wrong. It’s extremely rewarding to watch him coach Dumbo through his troubles. A true leader can sense when people need a helping hand, and Timothy exemplifies this when he sees Dumbo and has the intuition to make his life worthwhile. It all pays off too, as thanks to Timothy’s encouragement, Dumbo becomes a circus superstar and Timothy becomes Dumbo’s manager so he can continue to stand up for Dumbo, and for what is right.

Taurus: Timon and Pumbaa

The Disney Sidekick You Are Based On Your Zodiac Sign
Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

Hakuna Matata means no worries, and who better exemplifies the concept better than “The Lion King” sidekicks Timon and Pumbaa? The problem-free philosophy was introduced by these two fan-favorite characters in the highest-grossing hand-drawn animated film of all time. They’re also perfect examples of the Taurus star sign. For Tauruses -– born between April 20 and May 20 –- consistency is key, and nothing is more consistent than lounging around in the jungle every day.

Tauruses are grounded and pragmatic. You can always count on a Taurus, as reliability and consistency are what they’re all about -– in fact, it’s what they take comfort in. To a Taurus, luxury comes in their day-to-day life staying the course, and this is exactly how Timon and Pumbaa derive joy. Tauruses can struggle with possessiveness, as evidenced by Timon and Pumbaa’s deep frustration over Simba choosing to head back to Pride Rock. At the end of the day, Timon and Pumbaa embody Tauruses’ best qualities, as they challenge their own comfort to be there for their friend, showcasing their loyalty, thereby ensuring they are incredibly reliable and dependable like any Taurus would be.

Gemini: Lumiere

The Disney Sidekick You Are Based On Your Zodiac Sign
Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

You can always count on a Gemini to be the life of the party. They can dazzle with their remarkable charisma, entrance with their flirtations and their sense of humor keeps everyone around them engaged. Nobody in the Disney canon fits the role of the Gemini –- those born between May 21 and June 20 –- better than Lumiere, the enchanting candlestick from 1991’s “Beauty and the Beast.”

The first animated film to be nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards, “Beauty and the Beast” is beloved for its tremendous cast of characters, and Lumiere is one of the very best. His standout moment comes in the exquisite “Be Our Guest,” which showcases all aspects of Lumiere’s Gemini. Lumiere is everyone’s focus during the song, as he charms with his tremendous charisma. He’s fast on his feet and deeply expressive, and he draws in everyone around him to sing along. Typical of a Gemini, Lumiere is unafraid to express the other, darker side of his personality, like when he sings of a servant’s duty and how they’ve all been rusting, waiting around for ten years. This sudden turn to a more serious, restless energy showcases exactly what a Gemini is all about, and the song beautifully expresses all of Lumiere’s fascinating layers.

Cancer: Tinkerbell

The Disney Sidekick You Are Based On Your Zodiac Sign
Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

A Cancer can be tricky to get to know, but that challenge is rewarded with a deeply loyal and empathetic friend. A Cancer –- those born between June 21 and July 22 –- show their emotions on their sleeve and are deeply sensitive. Tinkerbell, from 1953’s “Peter Pan,” represents Cancer. She is consistently moody and manipulative with Wendy, because she’s deeply loyal to Peter Pan and sees Wendy as someone who threatens her standing with him. Wendy is a stranger to Tinkerbell, and, emblematic of Cancers, she is very distrusting of strangers. We don’t learn much about Tinkerbell, which is no surprise as Cancers are rather secretive about their personal lives.

Cancers struggle with insecurity just like Tinkerbell. She regularly looks at herself disappointedly in the mirror, pulling and prodding at her body. Despite these more difficult traits, Tinkerbell is immensely popular in the Disney canon and is a rare sidekick that has not only got her own film, but an entire film franchise. This is likely because Tinkerbell also has Cancer’s very best qualities; she’s tenacious, faithful, truehearted, persuasive, and a worthy friend.

Leo: Tigger

The Disney Sidekick You Are Based On Your Zodiac Sign
Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

A Leo is creative, a thrill-seeking leader whose every aspect of their personality leads back to their dominant nature. They adore attention, can’t stand being ignored, and love to spend time with their friends having fun. Making his debut in 1977’s “The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh,” Tigger has entranced audiences around the world for years, most recently reappearing in 2011’s “Winnie the Pooh.” Tigger’s immense optimism and unshakable energy are clear signs that he is a Leo.

Another sidekick with his own film, Tigger is the domineering personality in the “Winnie the Pooh” universe. As long as Tigger is the center of attention he is deeply satisfied, though it can be easy to mistake his desire to be noticed as arrogance, and Tigger can often forget that other people are even there. After all, he has an entire song about how it’s all about Tigger. Still, Tigger’s confidence is positively infectious and regularly brings out the best in those around him. His impact is especially felt by Roo, who loves to bounce along with him, and who is certainly entranced by Tigger’s natural leadership. For those Leos –- born between July 23 and August 22 –- Tigger is the perfect match.

Virgo: Flower

The Disney Sidekick You Are Based On Your Zodiac Sign
Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

From 1942’s “Bambi,” Flower, is soft-spoken and coy. The charming skunk is most often seen blushing and hiding behind his striped tail. Ever a Virgo, Flower loves his fellow animals and is passionate about the nature around him. He’s careful and is quietly inquisitive, taking in the sights around him in a contemplative fashion. Though Flower can get anxious easily, he has a wonderful heart, and is loyal, especially to his friends Bambi and Thumper. He’s also kind and artistic.

Virgos –- those born between August 23 and September 22 -– are known to be focused on the little details, and their sense of caution means nothing is left to chance. Like the Virgo sign, Flower is often misunderstood — Bambi and Thumper even think that Flower is a girl. You may pass Flower by at first glance, like many Virgos, but a second look reveals tremendous humanity worth having around.

Libra: David Q. Dawson

The Disney Sidekick You Are Based On Your Zodiac Sign
Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

Libras –- people born between September 23 and October 22 -– are known for their sense of balance and justice. They are typically peacemakers, have a strong sense of fairness, and don’t enjoy being alone with their own thoughts. Being with others is when their cooperative and diplomatic abilities shine through, and Libra’s are at their best when with a partner. Who better exemplifies the Libra’s traits than David Q. Dawson, Basil’s partner in 1986’s “The Great Mouse Detective.”

The film, directed by Ron Clements and John Musker, is often overlooked, as it was released just a few years before the Disney Renaissance kicked off with “The Little Mermaid.” Just like the film he’s in, Dawson is also regularly overlooked by Disney fans. The same can be said of Libras because they’re rarely flashy and excel in a pair or a group rather than taking center stage for themselves. Though Dawson isn’t hungry for the spotlight, his partnership with Basil allows him to access all the best parts of himself. Without Dawson’s ability to think through complex problems and his accessing the key parts of his Libra sign, it’s likely that Dawson and Basil could not have succeeded on their mission to reunite Olivia with her father and stop the nefarious Ratigan.

Scorpio: Jiminy Cricket

The Disney Sidekick You Are Based On Your Zodiac Sign
Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

With the exception of Mickey Mouse, it’s difficult to imagine a character that symbolizes Disney better than Jiminy Cricket. Starring in Disney’s second film, 1940’s “Pinocchio,” Jiminy Cricket is one of the original Disney sidekicks, and he introduced the concept of your conscience to children all over the world. Plus, he even sings “When You Wish Upon A Star,” a song that has become ubiquitous with the Disney brand. Just as the song is intrinsically linked to Disney, Jiminy Cricket is undeniably a Scorpio.

Scorpios –- people born between October 23 and November 21 -– are assertive and persistent, and have a determination and drive more intense than any other Zodiac sign. Jiminy is tremendously driven to guide Pinocchio through life, though it’s fair to say that managing Pinocchio is no easy task. Jiminy fails repeatedly as Pinocchio refuses to listen to him, but that never stops Jiminy from being resourceful, brave, passionate, and strong. He never gives up, no matter how dire the circumstances. Whether Pinocchio is sold to a greedy puppeteer or swallowed by a whale, there’s no doubt that Jiminy will come to the rescue. Though he can be distrusting and gets frustrated over Pinocchio’s constant transgressions, nothing will stop Jiminy from fighting for Pinocchio. Like all Scorpios, Jiminy cannot stand dishonesty and always tries to help Pinocchio tell the truth. Despite his shortcomings, Jiminy ultimately helps Pinocchio understand what it means to be a real boy, and his endless drive results in success, making him a tried-and-true Scorpio.

Sagittarius: Baloo

The Disney Sidekick You Are Based On Your Zodiac Sign
Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

People with the Sagittarius star sign -– anyone born between November 22 and December 21 -– are renowned for their curiosity and energy. They always keep an open mind and are the travelers of the Zodiac. From 1967’s “The Jungle Book,” charming bear Baloo is always on the move. After all, his roaming nature is how he meets Mowgli and their bond begins. As Baloo sings in “Bear Necessities,” “wherever I wander, wherever I roam, I couldn’t be fonder of my big home.”

Though Baloo loves having Mowgli around, not everyone in the jungle is pleased with his presence. The main dissent comes from Baloo’s friend Bagheera, who tries to consistently remind Baloo that Mowgli is better off with his own kind. However, Baloo’s idealism (typical of a Sagittarius) gives him a different perspective that Mowgli belongs in the jungle with him. His ability to see the world in different ways allows him to change his viewpoints and, though he does eventually agree that Mowgli should be with people, his open mind ensures his bond with Mowgli is everlasting.

People revere the Sagittarius zodiac sign for its great sense of humor, and Baloo is no exception. He’s always able to make those around him laugh and feel at ease. His general joie de vie is infectious, and his generosity ensures that Mowgli is well looked after, which is no easy task.

Capricorn: Cogsworth

The Disney Sidekick You Are Based On Your Zodiac Sign
Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

Capricorns –- those born between December 22 and January 19 –- are responsible and reliable. They have a strong sense of independence and self-control, and are grounded in reality while making realistic goals and objectives. This is certainly true of Cogsworth, from “Beauty and the Beast.” Cogsworth has even been transformed into a clock, a symbol of discipline and responsibility if there ever was one.

Cogsworth is something of a know it all, and simply can’t hold back when it comes to correcting Lumiere, which he does with great pleasure, just like a Capricorn would. Also true to the Capricorn nature, at one point or another Cogsworth dislikes seemingly everything, and is constantly stressed out about upsetting the Beast. This stems from Cogsworth’s taking his job very seriously. He’s quite passionate about managing the castle, something typical of Capricorns. Though Cogsworth (and Capricorns) may sound a bit off-putting, there’s a lot to love about him. Like his Capricorn sign, Cogsworth is very protective of his friends. He is seen taking care of Mrs. Potts when the final petal falls off of the enchanted rose, and though he has a rivalry with Lumiere when it comes down to it, Cogsworth would much rather be a loyal friend than a know-it-all.
