The Creator Of Netflix's 'Beef' Is Ready For Season 2
If another serving of ‘Beef’ is what you’re after, then you might just be in luck.
Last year was a brilliant year for streaming, whether it was the cult following of the Succession finale, And Just Like That’s second season, or The Bear. And adding to that, of course, was Netflix’s Beef. The show was such a hit that it was a sweeping success at the 2023 Emmys, and won eight out of it’s 13 nominations.
Given its success, a second season has naturally been expected, however, what lays ahead for the dark comedy series is yet to be determined.
The show quickly being an acclaimed favourite for its relatability and subtle revelations throughout the season. The storyline follows two strangers whose lives are suddenly intertwined after a moment of road rage leaves them thirsting for revenge.
In addition to stellar performances from lead actors Ali Wong and Steven Yeun, the show also includes appearances from Joseph Lee, Young Mazino, Maria Bello, David Choe, and Patti Yasutake.
Here’s everything we know about Beef season 2:
Will there be a season 2 of Beef?
Backstage at this year’s Emmys the series’ creator Lee Sung Jin told reporters that he’d be open to do a second season. ‘I feel like there are so many paths. It could stay limited — it was a very close-ended story for sure. But if Netflix wanted to continue, it could also be anthology,’ he commented. ‘It could be many things. It’s up to the great algorithm. We’re all waiting to hear.’
When asked again at the Golden Globes about a possible season season, he stated: ‘We always pitched the season to buyers as an anthology series. There was always going to be new characters,’ he said. ‘Whether it stays limited or turns as an anthology or we continue existing, that’s really up to Netflix. But whatever they decide, I’m definitely ready.’
What has the Beef cast said about season 2?
While a follow up to season one is still in the air, drawing conclusions about the probability hasn’t been made any easier by the cast of the show. During the red carpet before the Emmys ceremony, Yeun (who plays Danny in the show) stated, ‘I defer to Sonny on all fronts,’ when asked about a potential second season.
When will season 2 of Beef be released?
The release and making of season two is still very much to be confirmed. However, considering the first season was released in April 2023, and has so far had a slew of award wins and nominations in recent months, we can’t see any reason for a second season not to be in the works very soon.
