Whether it’s red, white or rosé, cosying up with a glass of wine is the perfect way to settle in for the winter.

Wine is also a timeless gift to give, especially when visiting friends and family for the upcoming festive season.

So, whether trying new wines has become a hobby, the bottle rack needs a restock, or you’re entertaining guests, we’ve found plenty of deals worth snapping up.

From supermarkets to specialist retailers, we’ve handpicked the best bargains across both bottles and cases of red, rosé and white wines.

As the nights draw in, why not try a glass or two of something new?

The best wine deals for December 2021 are:

    • Campo Viejo rioja reserva 13.5%, 75cl: Was £11 per bottle, now 3 for £18,

    • Cave de Lugny ‘les pierres blanches’ chardonnay, case of 6: Was £74.94 now £59.94,

    • Alturo Malbec, case of 6: Was £71.94, now £35.94,

    • Caves d’Esclans ‘whispering angel’ rosé 2020, 13.5%, 75cl, case of 6: Was £137.94, now £113.94,

    • The Waterproof chardonnay: Was £7.99, now £5.99,

    • Waimea Estates sauvignon blanc, Nelson, case of 6: Was £77.94, now £59.94,

Campo Viejo Rioja reserva 13.5%, 75cl: Was £11 per bottle, now 3 for £18,

Morrisons is currently offering a three-for-£18 deal on a wide range of wine, but this bottle of Rioja stands out more than most – because it’s usually £11 a bottle, making three for £18 an absolute bargain. This 2016-vintage Spanish rioja is a blend of the tempranillo, graciano and mazuelo grapes. It’s a proper wintertime wine thanks to its red berry fruitiness, soft tannins and subtle oaky notes. Best enjoyed with a Sunday roast.

Cave de Lugny ‘les pierres blanches’ chardonnay, case of 6: Was £74.94 now £59.94,

This half-case of six bottles has been reduced by £15 at Majestic. The wine in question is a French chardonnay from Cave de Lugny of the Burgundy region. By using grapes from thirty-year-old vines, this wine promises an intense flavour and extra fruitiness thanks to be being left unoaked. Tasting notes for this 2020 vintage include citrus, green melon and a touch of honey, with a fresh finish.

Alturo malbec, case of 6: Was £71.94, now £35.94,

Here’s a great deal on six bottles of Alturo malbec, reduced to £35.94 at Majestic. According to the retailer, “convoluted wine shipping laws” mean that, while this bottle comes from the Uco Valley, an Argentinian winemaking hotspot, it’s labelled as a generic Mendoza malbec and so is a bit of a steal. Using grapes from high altitude (3,500 feet above sea level, this case) means intense flavours from high sun exposure, but with freshness and a silky smoothness aided by lower nighttime temperatures.

    Caves d’Esclans ‘whispering angel’ rosé 2020, 13.5%, 75cl, case of 6: Was £137.94, now £113.94,

At Majestic, one of the UK’s largest wine retailers, you can currently save £24 when you buy six bottles. So why not take the opportunity to top up your stash? We’ve got our eye on this “whispering angel”, one of the most popular rosés on the market. With notes of apple, pink grapefruit, peaches and cream, it’s a refreshing dinner party essential.

The Waterproof chardonnay: Was £7.99, now £5.99,

Chardonnay fans, pick up a bottle of this Waterfront vino with a saving of £2 right now. With juicy, tropical fruit flavours and fresh citrus notes, it’s ideal to serve as an aperitif at dinner parties.

Waimea Estates sauvignon blanc, Nelson, case of 6: Was £77.94, now £53.94,

    (Majestic Wines)

You can expect flavours of passionfruit, lime, peapod, apple, lemon and tropical fruit with this sauvignon blanc from the Nelson region in New Zealand. These crisp and complex flavours from the award-winning Waimea Estates are a great match for fish dishes or simply stock up the drinks cabinet with six more bottles for your next soiree.
