‘shahjahan’s arrest not end of it’: sandeshkhali women asks mamata to return their ‘good days’
The situation has been tense in West Bengal’s Sandeshkhali over the past few days after a large number of women from Sandeshkhali accused local Trinamool Congress leaders of exploitation and harassment. On Sunday, some of the victims spoke to Times Now and levelled allegations against the suspended Trinamool leader.
Urging CM Mamata Banerjee to visit them and check if they are ‘outsiders’, one of the victims said, “Didi traded their respect for “lokkhir Bhanda”. Shahjahan’s arrest is not the end of it, his henchman continues to threaten us. They have said that they will send white sarees to their houses.”
Further raising questions on how Shahjahan was arrested, the victim said no handcuffs for Shahjahan, he was rolling his finger leading the police force.”
Another victim, with tears in her eyes, said, “I have told about the attrocities committed on us to the fact-finding team. Sheikh Shahjahan’s men took the women of the houses – in the name of picnic, meeting – good looking women, women with good physiques, young women were given priority.Uttam , Shibu used to call us. When the men of the house objected, Uttam and Shibu threatened to beat them up.”
When questioned if they (victims) are happy with Shahjahan’s arrest, one of the victims said, “No, we want him to be in jail his whole life. Why was Shahjahan arrested at night? Why was there no handcuffs when he was arrested? There are other henchmen of Sheikh Shahjahan, who should be arrested too.
Can Didi (Mamata Banerjee) return us our good days?”
Notably, Shahjahan Sheikh was arrested on Thursday after a 55-day run by Bengal police in connection with a mob attack on a team of Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials last month. The TMC strongman is also accused of harassment and usurping land in Sandeshkahli, an island in Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district.
‘No Sympathy For That Person’: Calcutta HC To Shahjahan Sheikh’s Lawyer
The Calcutta High Court showed “no sympathy” towards TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh as it turned down his advocate’s request to raise a bail plea. On Thursday, when Shahjahan’s advocate brought up the anticipatory bail petition, the Chief Justice declined and instructed him to revisit the matter on Monday, the next scheduled hearing date for the court.
“My anticipatory bail was rejected. I was arrested last night. I cannot mention before the regular bench now,” Shahjahan’s advocate pleaded the court. “Come on Monday. We have got no sympathy for that person. Please come on Monday, not now,” the bench remarked.
