Gavin Hunt not happy with Percy Tau’s role at Bafana

SuperSport United coach, Gavin Hunt, has expressed his dissatisfaction with Percy Tau’s performance at the African Cup of Nations.

The 59-year-old said that the Bafana Bafana striker needed to be more involved in the game.

Tau, who missed a penalty in Bafana Bafana’s Afcon opener against Mali, redeemed himself by scoring a penalty against Namibia in the second game but chased shadows the whole tournament.

Hunt criticized the team’s play against Mali and suggested that Tau should be played upfront where he can run at defenders.

Gavin Hunt says Tau is too relaxed at Al Ahly

Hunt believes that Tau is not playing within the team’s structure and is not effective on the right side of midfield.

He compared Tau’s play when he plays for club and country and suggested that playing him as a nine would be more effective because he is not a wide player in a 4-4-2.

Speaking to Peter du Toit on ThisisFootball Africa, the SuperSport United coach said Tau was playing on his own, and not playing within the team structure.

“No never, I’m not blaming the national team,” Hunt on Tau’s lack of involvement in Bafana games.

“I watched him when Al Ahli played Sundowns, he doesn’t touch the ball, he doesn’t get involved in the game, he just hangs on the wing there, comes inside, and cuts inside but he should be more effective. Play him as a nine, he’s more effective there because he’s not a wide player in a 4-4-2,” he said on Tau.
